Well, you have to admit, Tolstoy's War and Peace makes for one helluva effective weapon ...

It makes for a nice handheld weapon, yes. There's no problem you can't solve by dropping the OED on it (Snooker tables also qualify).

Has the name of the Library showed up in any other strip? I can make out "Tolkien - Rowling - ??? - ??? - ??? - Zelazny". I assume the others are similar authors, but I'd prefer someone clue me in instead of continuing to put my nose two inches from my laptop screen and squint at it any more.

That last one would seem to be "Moorcock" if I'm reading it correctly.

Aw, and here I thought I typed them too small to read! Wink

Good job, guys! The names are, in fact, Tolkien - Rowlings - Asimov - Moorcock - Pratchett - Zelazny. All authors I have enjoyed reading over the years. I think pretty everybody's heard of Tolkien (Lord of the Rings), Rowlings (Harry Potter) and Asimov (Robots), and probably of Pratchett (Discworld) too. Michael Moorcock is most known for his Elric series, and Zelazny for his Chronicles of Amber (which I heartily recommend).

Thumbs up for your good taste in literature, as well as fine comic! I've read some of all those except Zelazny, and several people have recommended his books - it's on my "to do" list, which means it will happen some time around 2040.

J.K. Rowling is a cowardly hack. She used british formula, and didn't have the courage to have characters deal with the situations they created.

I'd rather see Arthur C. Clarke make her reading list, since she is dealing with a psychotic robot.

Why, have you read some novel by Arthur C. Clarke with a psychotic robot?
OK, there is a psychotic spaceship, but that's not quite the same...

Actually the HAL computer system was an analytical program, not the ship ^_^

It went nuts because it had to lie!

Would you rather I choose Ridley Scott?
